Voice lessons with Dr. Sarah Ellena Hogrefe
To unleash your true voice, your breath support must be strong, your resonance beautiful, your diction flawless, and your posture aligned. Easy, huh? Well, not for me. The more I studied and the more I sang, the harder singing got, until it felt like I was fighting my voice and body for every note!
After studying voice for approximately 25 years, I finally had to admit the truth, and it almost broke my heart. I was a mezzo-soprano with a Doctorate degree in Voice Performance and Pegagogy, but I had no understanding of my top range. I mean, after all that time, hadn’t I earned beautiful high notes? Unfortunately, NO was the answer.
But I wasn’t giving up.
I started to listen to my own voice and body and follow its instruction. In addition to daily music practice sessions, I began yoga and pilates, jogging, seeking help from the medical profession, and practicing mindful body awareness throughout the day, My goals were to align my body, intentionally direct the air speed and flow, and articulate words more clearly.
Now my breath is intentional, my body is in alignment, my mind is focused on the music, and my voice soars freely from top to bottom.
Let’s free your voice next! Whether you’re a young musician who wants to study music, a young singing artist, or an adult avocational singer, I can help you reach your vocal goals and make singing more fun in the process!
